National Christian Council (NCC) founder president and former state level member of Prime Ministers 15 Point Programme for Minorities, Dr. Sam Paul on Friday, announced that the Eastern Bible College (EBC), Dimapur would be an integral part of “Training of Christian Missionaries” for India, NCC leaders, member Churches and organisations in the country.

Announcing this in a press conference at EBC, Dr. Paul highlighted the objectives of the council which he said was to serve minorities by uniting the leaders in the church.

“It is a human rights network to promote communal harmony and understanding between communities and to address issues of any atrocities on minorities in particular Christians”, he informed.

He said the anti-conversion bill would be “the official persecution of the government”.

On Naga political issue, Dr. Sam Paul appealed to the PM to take initiative to bring peace and harmony in the region and ensure that development of Nagaland “takes place in full force”.

“The necessity of peace is imminent and peace is always real and possible when justice is rendered to the persons concerned”, he further stated.

The NCC president also appealed to the prime minister to see that peace returns so that the ministry of Development of North Eastern Region could move on with their schemes of developing North Eastern States including budget allocations for more infrastructure creation, accessibility of employment, etc. On religious intolerance in India, Paul lamented it was “disheartening” and “a dangerous trend”.

While stating that religious intolerance was a threat to the democracy, Dr. Paul appealed to the fundamentalist groups to uphold the great tradition of “vasudeva kutumbakam” (The World Is One Family) as such issues in India went against the ethos and essence of the country.

If left unattended, he stated that the intolerance would keep breeding.
