The National Christian Council (NCC) in association with the World Communion of Biblical Churches (Regd. in USA & India) conducted a solemn and meaningful Ordination Service in Shillong, Meghalaya today, during which several ministers were ordained as Pastors and Reverends.
Welcoming the gathering, NCC North-East Region President, Rev. Nand Kumar Gurung, expressed his joy over the encouraging response received during the earlier NCC ordinations held in Guwahati. He noted that the Shillong ordinations mark an important step for Meghalaya and shared that similar services will soon be conducted in other North-Eastern states. He also sincerely appreciated the time and gracious appointment given by the Presiding Bishop, Rev. Dr. Sam Paul Kolakaluri, for leading and guiding this important service.
Adding a warm cultural touch to the programme, NCC Assam leader, Bro. Israel Nanda, who is also a senior politician, welcomed the leaders and guests by honouring them with the traditional Assamese gamosa.
The entire programme was conducted by the NCC North-East Region Vice President, Rev. Dr. Thungdemo Lotha. The service was well planned and organised, with a printed programme schedule thoughtfully provided to every participant. He later introduced the Eastern Bible College, Dimapur and urged all to pray.
Addressing the gathering, National Vice President, Rev. Brighty Beulah, shared that three leaders in her life had deeply influenced her spiritual journey. Drawing from the lives of women in the Bible, she encouraged the newly ordained ministers to be rooted in faith like Ruth, brave like Esther, and faithful in teaching like Priscilla. She highlighted the value of NCC certificate nationally and internationally.
In his keynote message, the Presiding Bishop, Rev. Dr. Sam Paul Kolakaluri, reminded the ordinands that a minister’s life is watched more closely than any certificate and that personal testimony speaks louder than titles. He exhorted them to live as servants who are:
a) Surrendered to Christ (Solus Christus)
b) Grounded in Scripture (Sola Scriptura)
c) Dedicated to Serving the community
d) In continuous study of God’s Word, to be ready in season and out of season, and to be
e) faithful stewards of the Gospel and of the flock entrusted to them
He then led all the ordinands in a solemn vow of commitment and dedication.
This was followed by the presentation of certificates, the ceremonial investiture with the special robe, and the anointing with fresh oil, with individual prayers offered for each ordinand by the Presiding Bishop and the senior Reverends and officials conducting the Ordination Ceremony.
Several senior leaders and dignitaries were present on the occasion, including NCC Sikkim President Rev. Robin Chettri, Assam NCC leader Rev. Akon Bajranayak, Meghalaya State President Rev. Silash M. Sangma, and former IAS and IPS officers, along with other Church and NCC leaders from across the region.
The ordination service in Shillong marked another significant milestone in NCC’s ongoing mission to strengthen pastoral leadership and ministry across the North-Eastern states of India.
